Tonight the kids were pretending to be Mary and Joseph when I called them for supper. Philip came downstairs, saw that we were having scalloped potatoes, and this conversation followed:
Philip: "Mommy, I need some ketchup"
Mommy: "What do you need ketchup for?"
Philip: "For my potatoes."
Mommy: "You don't need ketchup on scalloped potatoes. There is cheese on them."
Philip: "Well, I like ketchup with the cheese."
Mommy: "No, you don't need ketchup."
Philip: "Well, Joseph probably liked ketchup on his potatoes with the cheese."
Mommy: "When Joseph was alive there was no such thing as ketchup."
(Philip has a look of horror on his face)
Philip: "Joseph didn't have ketchup when he was alive?"
Mommy: "No, ketchup wasn't created until after he was dead."
Philip: "Well, when did God create ketchup then?"
